Bitterness doesn’t always mean bad. In fact, sometimes it means truth.
This morning, I brewed a French press that hit me harder than most of my exes ever could — all earthy bottom notes and no cream to hide behind. And weirdly... I liked it. Maybe because I’m finally okay sitting with what’s hard.
☕️ The Deeper Sip
Bitterness is a misunderstood taste. In coffee, it’s often the thing we try to eliminate — over-roasting, over-extracting, under-balancing. But life? Life brews bitterness all the time. An unresolved goodbye. A rejection email. A quiet birthday.And yet — bitterness is also what gives depth. That moment after the first mouthful where you exhale and feel something. Real, sharp, unfiltered.
The same goes for that cup of straight black coffee you drink when you’re tired of pretending. Or when you’re finally not afraid to be alone.
We don’t always need to sweeten it. Sometimes, we need to taste it.
🍵 Recipe of the Day: No-BS French Press Brew
Description: Bold, slightly bitter, and unapologetically real.
Ingredients:

30g coarsely ground coffee

500ml water just off boil

A spoon and a little attitude
Instructions:

Add grounds to the French press.

Pour hot water in slowly.

Stir gently, then steep for 4 minutes.

🍹 Bonus Brew: Black Lemon Espresso Tonic
Ingredients:

1 shot espresso

150ml tonic water

A wedge of lemon

Ice
Instructions:

Fill a glass with ice.

Add tonic water.

Slowly pour in espresso to create layers.
